Swedish melodic death metal band AMON AMARTH turned up for a surprise performance at this year’s Wacken Open Air festival on Thursday, August 4 in Wacken, Germany.

After the show, AMON AMARTH shared some video footage to its social media pages which included the following message: “Heathens! Thank you for joining us today on the glorious battle ground of @Wacken for a surprise set. Until next time!”

Earlier in the week, AMON AMARTH teased the performance as an appearance from a band called GUARDIANS OF ASGAARD, who would supposedly be making “a brief appearance at Wacken on Thursday to play some of your favorite AMON AMARTH hits.”

The infamous Wacken Open Air festival takes place every year in the village of Wacken, Germany and is attended by upwards of 85,000 people.

Among the acts scheduled to perform at this year’s Wacken Open Air, include SLIPKNOT, POWERWOLF and JUDAS PRIEST.

AMON AMARTH just dropped its twelfth studio album, “The Great Heathen Army“, via Metal Blade Records. The effort was recorded with producer Andy Sneap, who previously worked with AMON AMARTH on 2013’s “Deceiver Of The Gods” and 2016’s “Jomsviking” albums.
