DAVID LEE ROTH Comments On The Rumored VAN HALEN Celebration Tour

David Lee Roth has commented on the recent reports that there has been discussion between him, Joe Satriani and Alex Van Halen about a possible tribute concert tour for late guitarist Eddie Van Halen.

David Lee Roth has commented on the recent reports that there has been talk between him, Alex Van Halen and Joe Satriani about hitting the road for an all-star VAN HALEN tribute concert.

Recently, Satriani confirmed to the “Rock Of Nations With Dave Kinchen” show that the three have been in consistent contact over the past year “about doing something — a tour, something like that” that would pay tribute to late VAN HALEN guitarist Eddie Van Halen and the legacy of the iconic Pasadena band.

Satriani confirmed the rumors after former METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted let it slip to The Palm Beach Post that he was approached by Alex Van Halen about playing bass for the project six months prior and even flew down to California to jam with the guys to see how it felt.

Newsted told the Florida newspaper that he eventually turned down the opportunity after realizing that it just didn’t feel right. “How could you?” Newsted said. “There’s nobody that can top it, so how do you show it honor? I didn’t want it to be viewed as a money grab. And then it kind of just all fizzled.”

Roth was asked by the Van Halen News Desk to comment on the recent talk and hypothetical VAN HALEN tribute tour, to which he replied via e-mail: “IN MY MIND VAN HALEN 4r, IN THE AGE OF COVID IS GOING TO REQUIRE TWO OF US FOR EVERY POSITION. SATRIANI AND LUKATHER, ANTHONY AND NEWSTED, AL OR TOMMY LEE. PROBABLY THE ONLY ONE WHO COULD DO MY JOB TODAY WOULD BE PINK..”

David Lee Roth recently canceled the remaining farewell shows on his Las Vegas residency at the House Of Blues at Mandalay Bay after announcing three months prior that he would be retiring from music. “I am throwing in the shoes. I’m retiring,” Roth told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “These are my last shows.” He added: “I’m not going to explain the statement. The explanation is in a safe.”
