The iconic debut album from DIO, “Holy Diver”, has been certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales in excess of two million units.

“Holy Diver” first arrived on May 25, 1983, and has gone on to reach royalty status among the hard rock and heavy metal genres.

The album was certified gold in the U.S. on September 12, 1984 and hit platinum status on March 21, 1989.

“Holy Diver” re-entered The Billboard 200 chart in May 2010 — shortly after the band’s frontman, Ronnie James Dio, died of stomach cancer — at No. 149 and bowed at No. 11 on the Pop Catalog chart.

Presently, the RIAA awards a gold certification for 500,000 units sold, a platinum honor for 1 million units sold and a diamond award for more than 10 million units sold.

Outside of traditional physical/digital sales, certifications in digital streams/downloads are marked by 10 permanent track downloads counting as 1 unit and 1500 on-demand audio/video streams from a particular album also counting as as a single unit.
