Ex-DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy took to his social media to congratulate his former bandmates on their Grammy win last night (April 3).

DREAM THEATER won the “Best Metal Performance” category award in the pre-telecast ceremony at the 64th annual Grammys, which was held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

DREAM THEATER walked away with the statue for their song “The Alien”, off their 2021 album “A View From The Top Of The World”.

Soon after DREAM THEATER’s win, Portnoy shared an Instagram screenshot of Loudwire‘s report on the victory and wrote in a caption: “Congrats to my friends…Very happy for you guys!”

Keyboardist Jordan Rudess, who joined DREAM THEATER in 1999, replied: “Thanks buddy!! Thanks for hiring me many years ago!!!!”

Turns out, third time really is a charm as this was the band’s third Grammy nomination.

Portnoy co-founded DREAM THEATER 37 years ago, but quit the band in September 2010 while on tour with AVENGED SEVENFOLD. He was replaced by drummer Mike Mangini.
