EPICA founder and vocalist/guitarist Mark Jansen recently sat down with Loaded Radio’s Scott Penfold, via Zoom, to discuss the band’s upcoming eighth studio album “Omega”.
Due on February 26 via Nuclear Blast, the follow-up to 2016’s “The Holographic Principle” was produced by Joost Van Den Broek (POWERWOLF, AYREON) in part at Sandlane Recording Facilities in Rijen, Netherlands.
Mark is a prominent figure in the symphonic metal subgenre, known for his work with AFTER FOREVOR (1995–2002), EPICA (2002–present), and MaYaN (2010–present).
Jansen founded AFTER FOREVOR with Sander Gommans in 1995, which saw the addition of future NIGHTWISH vocalist Floor Jansen in 1997. He would remain one of the main songwriters of the outfit since the band’s debut album ‘Prison of Desire’, however would eventually leave the group in 2002 to form the band SAHARA DUST which would eventually become EPICA with the addition of then girlfriend Simone Simons on vocals in 2003.
In the podcast, Mark talks about the new album, the band’s post-COVID-19 plans, the relationship between brutal metal and symphonic music, the current relationship with Simone Simons and so much more.
