Is METALLICA cancel culture a growing trend?

It seems that a growing number of fans of the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things” are taking aim at METALLICA in an attempt to “cancel” the iconic metal band.

In a new viral video posted last week (August 6) by TikTok user Serena Trueblood, the social media “influencer” posted a series of clips under the feature title “Is Your Fav Problematic”.

A number of TikTok commenters on Trueblood’s video responded with regret for their recent METALLICA purchases, after discovering the band via “Stranger Things“. That being said, numerous others defended the band.

Trueblood seems to call out METALLICA for their past actions caught on photos or video, which includes members like former bassist Jason Newsted appearing to do Nazi salutes while performing live. Trueblood also shows clips where METALLICA make fun of the death of Kurt Cobain after the NIRVANA singer’s 1994 suicide. Trueblood also claims that METALLICA frontman James Hetfield kept the band BODY COUNT, which features frontman ICE-T, off their 1992 tour due to the band being African American.

METALLICA fans on Twitter seemed to jump to the band’s defense in reaction to Trueblood’s video, with one tweet stating: “The fact Metallica welcomed and defended all the new fans that came from the stranger things fandom and they’ve gone and THROWN IT BACK IN THEIR FACES…”
