Former DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy attended a concert by the group last night (Friday, March 4) at the Beacon Theatre in New York City and apparently got a shoutout from singer James Labrie.
Last night’s concert was believed to the first time Portnoy attended a performance by DREAM THEATER since his departure from the band over 11 years ago.
DREAM THEATER fans on hand reported that James LaBrie gave Portnoy a shoutout from the stage with fans also taking numerous pictures of the drummer and his wife who were watching the concert from the soundboard area.
Portnoy quit the DREAM THEATER in September 2010 while on tour with AVENGED SEVENFOLD. He has since been replaced by Mike Mangini (ANNIHILATOR, EXTREME, STEVE VAI).
Portnoy was a guest on DREAM THEATER guitarist John Petrucci’s second solo album, “Terminal Velocity”, which was released in August 2020 via Sound Mind Music/The Orchard as the two have remained close.
