We May Be Getting A New GUITAR HERO Game

There is a good chance we could see another edition of Guitar Hero sooner than later.

With Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard, we may be getting a new edition of the ever popular video game ‘Guitar Hero’.

Activision Blizzard was recently acquired by Microsoft amidst issues of workplace culture, gender-based discrimination and sexual harassment lawsuits. The price tag for the purchase was a sizable $68.7 billion dollars and Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, seems intent on rejuvenating some iconic games from within the Activision Blizzard catalog. Guitar Hero is just one of those titles.

“I was looking at the IP list, I mean, let’s go! King’s Quest, Guitar Hero… I should know this but I think they got HeXen,” Spencer tells The Washington Post in a new interview.

No more was mentioned about the iconic game, which originally launched back in 2005 and hasn’t released a new edition since 2015.

Upon its initial release, Guitar Hero was a massive hit, allowing players to “play guitar” along with iconic songs, many of which were rock and metal bands.

Although the game didn’t come with an actual guitar (more like five color-coded fretboard buttons and a “strum bar”), the game still generated a massive resurgence in guitar orientated music.
